Saturday 19th February 2016
9am-4pm
R101 rooms, EIT, Taradale
Longworth Education Facilitators:  Lynda Cheer and Sarah Aiono

Self-assessment continuum
The self-assessment continuum was introduced and all teachers placed themselves on it according the indicators written.  It ranged from a very conservative and traditional teaching and learning space (Number 1) to a teaching and learning space fully designed to support PLAY as the vehicle for learning (Number 10).  I placed myself at a 6.  However, it is important to note that some cycles of learning in class would easily be at stages 7 or 8 but at this initial stage, is not consistent.

Next steps:
  • Develop further coaching skills for the development of social skills in Room 1.
  • Collecting more loose parts.
  • Organise reading time to balance the explicit teaching of literacy skills with the coaching through play opportunities.
Evidence:

This photo is an example of the progress made with developing communication and social skills. 3 Speech Language Therapists work within the room for 5 individuals and ESOL interventions are delivered daily by a Learning Assistant for 30 minutes.  The coaching through play has allowed for social skills to be modelled, explained and praised and has raised the speech abilities within these targeted students.
